Old Hollywood loses another light

Back on June 29th, Anna over at A Rose By Any Other Name was talking about the Hollywood of World War II and the heroes who gave up their careers to serve. Some gave their lives.

In the article she touched upon Glenn Miller and his life along with the mystery surrounding his probable death in December of 1944 over the English Channel. Jimmy Stewart, a WWII bomber pilot veteran played Glenn Miller in The Glenn Miller Story. Also starring in that movie was June Allyson.

It is with sadness that I report June Allyson has passed away at the age of 88. As I look through this article I realize June was more than just the fresh faced girl GIs would want to take home to Mom. Her father abandoned her and her mother when she was six. Her mother went hungry to make sure she got fed when they were so poor. Later she was struck by a tree branch and the prospects of her walking again were almost none. But she battled back and learned to walk again. Got into show business and prospered.

The world has lost a wonderful woman who not only entertained but tried to make a positive impact on those around her and the world.

Rest in peace June Allyson knowing we shall miss you.

I saw this article on the news yesterday and thought about posting it. She was a lovely lady and from all accounts she was lovely both on the screen and off.

June was part of that old Hollywood that sadly has passed away with her.

I remember shortly after September 11th some Hollywood producers asked what they could do to help. That sentiment lasted as long as French President Jacque Chirac's sympathy.
