This flag is one of those unknown treasures that require a bit of work to see. This is the actual flag that flew at Hickam Field in the Territory of Hawaii on December 7, 1941. It is presently cased and on display inside PACAF HQ at Hickam AFB. The current PACAF HQ on that day of infamy was called Hickam Hotel because it housed 3,200 airmen and was adjacent to the active flight-line. There is a scene in the movie Tora Tora Tora that shows men rushing to windows to see what was going on and the building being sprayed with bullets, this is that building and the external walls still bear the pock marks from those bullets.

The U.S. flag flies at half-mast at the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial to mark the death of Sen. Robert Byrd[D-WV].

Fair enough. he did serve a long time. Despite his faults.

Yes he did serve his own interests. And now he has come upon the Pearly Gates like the men of USS Arizona. Unlike them, I do not think St. Peter will take kindly to Byrd's greed.

For those who endured the attack on Pearl Harbor, may this nation forever remember their sacrifice.
