Terrorism Yardstick

Since September 11th, 2001 there has not been a successful Islamic terrorist attack within the United States.

Now compare this to the timeframe of 1968 to 1970. Domestic terrorists like the Black Panthers, Weather Underground, and SDS had carried out 5,000 bombing incidents across the United States. Theses terrorist attacks resulted in more than 50 deaths and $25 million in damages. Among the slain were physicist Robert Fassnacht at the University of Wisconsin, the target being an Army funded project in the same building. The truck bomb, like the one made famous by Timothy McVeigh, was an amonium-nitrate/fuel-oil bomb that also caused $6 million in damage.

When compared to that tumultuos and violent time, the eight years without fear under President Bush have to be cosnidered a success. May the Divine keep us safe.
