According to Answer.com the US federal holiday of Presidents' Day celebrates the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It used to be each president had their own federal holiday, but to make room to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as a federal holiday, they were combined into one holiday.
It appears someone does not understand this. Or perhaps they feel they are entitled to appropriate Presidents' Day also. I refer to Ms. Rosemary Harris, head of the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP, who is up in arms over something that happened at Peterson AFB, CO. It seems the commissary had a sign saying they would be closed for Presidents' Day and a picture of President Obama had been on the sign. According to the DCA, the picture was pulled from the sign after customers complained that President's Day is meant to honor Washington and Lincoln.
Ms. Harris naturally does not see it that way, she thinks if the picture is not put back up that it "bodes poorly for the progress that we hoped we would see in this country."
Listen here Ms. Harris, President Barack Hussein Obama has done nothing yet to be awarded the same honour and respect Washington and Lincoln have earned. One held together an army through hard times via willpower and courage while the other man held the Union together by his willpower and courage. Until Obama proves he has the same right stuff as Washington and Lincoln, get a clue and pipe down.
Hattip to Karagush, you da bomb.

Isn't there a clear protocol for displaying the photo of the current C-in-C on a base or gov't facility?
Yes there is, the President's picture tends to be placed where other pictures are like of the base commander, major command CC, etc.
This picture of the President was on a sign saying the Commissary was closing for Presidents's Day. Which is not the normal location to find the picture of the current President.
Showing their ignorance again, aren't they?
But then again, they never let facts get in the way of playing a race-related card...
Tom, do they ever stop showing their political agenda?
How long will it be before these nimrods start carving Obama's likeness on Mt. Rushmore?
Will never happen lucily. The environmentalists will stop it. We hope.
Anna,
Several years late, but...
The federal holiday falling on the 3rd Monday in Feb is not Presidents' Day and Answer.com is completely and utterly incorrect -- something I have had an ongoing feud with them about.
The actual name of the federal holiday is Washington's Birthday (See 5 USC 6103) and it only celebrates George Washington's birthday. Lincoln's birthday was NEVER a federal holiday, though it was a state holdiay in several states. The law passed in 1968 did not combine the birthdays, it moved the observance of most holidays to Mondays.
When we complained to the commissary management, we provided not only the federal law, but several well researched and even government articles explaining that the holiday is NOT Presidents Day and only honors Washington, not Lincoln, not all past Presidents, and not all past and present Presidents.
