While Time Magazine fawns over Bono and Mr.&Mrs. Gates, I think I will take a stab at nominating whom I think are the most significat people of 2005.
The survivors of the tsunami, of Katrina, of Rita, and of the Pakistani earthquake. To me these are the most significant people of 2005 by their courage in the face of terrible tragedy.
The looters and other evil people are exempted from the nomination of course.
