Requiem for a fallen hero

Rep. Randy 'Duke' Cunningham [R-CA] has pleaded guilty to charges he took bribes to steer defense contracts to co-conspirators. The amount of silver Rep. Cunningham received was $2.4 million.

This is a sad turn of events for a true hero. From the clear cold skies over North VietNam in his F-4 Phantom where he dueled against North VietNam's top ace to this sad fate. Where his victory that day meant life for himself and his RIO to now facing prison time. From being the US Navy's only ace of VietNam to having a criminal record. For a former member of the Naval Fighter Weapons School at Miramar to now having a dis-honored name. That is the price Randy 'Duke' Cunningham will have to pay for his misconduct as a member of the House of Representatives.

Lets all learn lessons from this. Hopefully he will be able to rehabilitate himself and his name so we can once more remember the true hero.

It never ceases to amaze me how politics can corrupt even the great and honorable.

I know it is very sad such a great man can have such a weakness.

But lets remember Rep. Rostenkowski who was booked into Club Fed for some funny dealings in the Congressional Post Office.
