"At the time I was so gobsmacked that I moved. I was so embarrassed and just stewed on it for the entire flight. I felt that it was totally discriminatory. Besides the point of what the hell was I going to do on a crowded flight." - Mark Worsley
How insane and stupid is this twaddle? We are talking a lot of people on an airplane. The crew already know who is the unattended children so if at the end of the flight they spy one such child in the company of an adult[either woman or man] then they can kindly intervene to remind Sally or Johnny that they will take them to their relatives; thusly preventing any possilbe harm.
"They're painting the picture that planes are full of potential paedophiles. ... New Zealand as a culture is starting to hide behind political correctness in order not to have to demonstrate moral courage and integrity." - Celia Lashlie
Their policy already states they should seat such children near the crew. But instead of sticking with such common sense they veer right off the cliff of PC fearfulness to presuming any man sitting next to such children must be a sexual predator. Who wrote these rules? They conform to international guidelines does not wash. These rules presume the man is guilty even if it was the airline itself which sold the ticket that assigned the man the seat next to the child.
And the leftist loons in the United States scream when Dept. of Homeland Security makes noises about profiling. The dichotomy of thought is staggering. Air New Zealand and Qantas need to review these hurtful rules and correct them post haste.
Thanks to Zacht Ei for kicking off this rant.

In a similar vein, with all of the recent female teacher shenanigans we have had, womed should also be separated from the children. Just a thought
