How to sour an audience

When the whole world is mourning the passing of Pope John Paul II, some just have to advance their agendas. Like a few die-hard Islamic nut-cases seething at the coverage the Pope got in Arab TV and in the US, the leaders of the Democratic Party in Congress.

While President Bush talked about the many things Pope John Paul II did in his life in his Friday radio address. Sen. Reid and Rep. Pelosi attacked the Republicans in their speech, showing how petty and mean-spirited they truly are by droning on about how the Republicans were seeking to muzzle voices in the Senate and rubber-stamp judgeships.

They had a plan and stuck to it, regardless of the moment - the Pope dying. Hate to tell those two, Napolean had a plan for Russia. And Hitler had one also. Both stuck to their endeavours until the great Russian bear ate them, then it was impossible to ignore the folly.

Fanaticism is redoubling one's effort while losing sight of objective. And Reid and Pelosi hit this one out the ballpark. Ve haf uh plan und ve vill stick to it ja!

To quote a great American, Bugs Bunny, "What a maroon."

You would think that to get to the positions Pelosi and Reid find themselves in, you would at least have to be good at politics. Yet they seem to be politically tone deaf. Laying off the squabbling long enough to show some respect for John Paul II is a no-brainer. Maybe the respect would be phony, but if Democrats have a problem with phoniness, why do they put up with John Kerry?

I understand what you are saying, but a politician gets elected by pandering to please while a statesman gets elected for not pandering and daring people to like him/her anyway.

Reid and Pelosi are apparatchiks who have written off trying to entice Red State people becaue they already know the Red Staters do not understand them. Instead they are aiming their messages at those who already buy into their little world-view just to keep their current base and hence be a force to be reckoned with.

I hate to tell Reid and Pelosi, they are now the hidebound idealogues fighting a snarling and mean rear defense as their world view is tossed on the ash heap of history by people endowed with common sense.

That is how I see it. Could be wrong but doubt it.
