Lady MacBeth Was a Humanitarian...

Compared to these people:
A Dutch couple has sparked outrage by giving up a seven-year-old South Korean girl they adopted as a baby – after claiming she didn't "fit in" with their life-style.

They claimed the girl, who was adopted when four months old and has lived in the territory since she was three, was struggling to adapt to their culture, including food.
...
The girl, who speaks English and Cantonese but not Korean, is neither a Dutch citizen nor a Hong Kong resident, so her future in the territory is uncertain.
...
"It's bizarre. I don't think it has anything to do with cultural shock," said Law Chi-kwong, an associate professor at the University of Hong Kong's Social Work department. "The child grew up with them. They adopted her when she was a baby; they are responsible for shaping the child's mind and culture. How can you say the child cannot adapt to the culture in which she was raised? This is just ridiculous."

This couple that the story refuses to name out of 'respect' adopted a baby girl in Korea when it was assumed the wife could not conceive. Now almost seven years later and after the mother has born two natural children, we reach this strange impasse. The couple have dumped her upon the Hong Kong social services, abandoned her in a location where she has no citizenship. It is not about not fitting in or adjusting I think. The man who adopted her is a Dutch diplomat and at age seven all she can speak is English and Cantonese - the languages of Hong Kong. No Korean or Dutch after six years? I get the sinking feeling this couple never taught her Dutch - maybe having the two other children changed their feelings. And the timing of the dumping is suspicious; was the diplomat about to be transferred back to Holland? Or were the two younger children starting to notice they had an older sister whom the adopted couple no longer doted over, so she had to go?

I am literally speechless over the sheer lack of caring expressed by this couple. They treated this innocent girl as if she was last year's fashion accessory. And only one step above irresponsible people taking the dogs or cats they no longer want, driving many miles away, and dumping the poor animals. The husband says the wife needs therapy, balderdash they both need therapy and the other children should be evaluated least they catch their parents strange calculation on how precious life is.

Suddenly I am keen on some people getting waterboarded.

There was a jerk I knew in D.C. that had two very nice Jack Russell Terriers. When he moved to an apartment and found it inconvenient to have dogs, he took them to a shelter.

I know it's not the same thing as this story, but there are people so self centered that they use pets and children as accessories which can be discarded.

Disgusting.

Mike I read you Lima Charlie on this. I am going to do a bit more digging for another post. But to me the parents are the height of selfishness, that child is a precious gift of a hopeful bright happy future and they just tossed her away like a Versace that is last season.
