Emperor and Empress visit Saipan

Here we are rolling towards 60th Anniv. marking VJ day and do we hear anything about this visit from the media? I do not recall such. But wow. Emperor Akihito and his wife the Empress Michiko visited Saipan, part of the Marianas and where Gen. LeMay's B-29s took off from to carpet bomb Japan. This was the couple's first ever trip marking a battle.

I really like this picture as the Imperial couple is leaving. I think it says so much.

Saipan was held by the Japanese during much of ww2 and ferocious battles took place there. A former trust territory of the U.S., Saipan enjoys U.S. Commonwealth status and its people are U.S. citizens.

Wabooo, it does say so much. If people are willing to step out of their Orestian cycle of violence, to realize the events that fuel their anger are in the past and only by learing of the mistakes that lead to that event can future horrors be avoided.

Yep ZT Saipan is a Commonwealth. People who could form their own country but choose to stay American. Think that is a pretty good recommendation of US character versus say France with IndoChina and Algiers.
