The contract holder of a published book retains a lot of rights, among them the option to republish elsewhere, to sell royalties for electronic reproduction, for audio/video recreation, even for comic book serialization. Unless Google gets my signature authorizing, I would probably seek to become a very wealthy man if they should adopt any orphaned works of mine.
