Don't worry Brigid, I am a late adopter also for many tech gadgets. I use my cellphone as a phone -gasp- and not to surf the web or get on Facebook.
The iPad early adopters face things as it being incapable of running Flash animation on web-pages. Another limfac is it can only run one app at a time. But they promise later versions will address these issues. Which means the early birds will have to upgrade later on and shell out more money.
I'm afraid Dave, I can't play Flash animation. 
I'm just got my first phone thta would take pictures. I'm usually about 30 years behind on this stuff, but that does look interesting.
